Visit the Fontainebleau castle where the presence of the kings of France can be traced back to the 12th century. Once the location of Napoleon Bonaparte's abdication and the hunting lodge of Francois I, the castle houses a museum devoted to Napoleon I with a collection of paintings and furniture. Enjoy the scenery with a walk in the gardens in front of one of the most beautiful forests in France. After your visit of the castle you will also have the opportunity to discover the village of Barbizon which is well known for having inspired 19th century painters such as Jean Francois Millet.
