This page is designed to help our travelers to learn simple french phrases and words
Each word list is geared to teach you one of three different skills, depending on what you'll need to do with the vocabulary:
- LISEZ (READ): for
signs in the airport, train station, on the street.
- ÉCOUTEZ (LISTEN): for phrases that
French people (a train conductor, a waiter) might say to you.
(Wouldn't it be nice to know what they're saying?)
- PARLEZ (SPEAK): for questions you might
need to ask (Where is the station? Is this the right train?)
When you have finished with the instruction, you should
be able to:
- Read and understand all vocabulary marked with LISEZ;
- Hear and understand all vocabulary marked with ÉCOUTEZ or E;
- Speak all vocabulary marked with PARLEZ or P (make sure you practice saying these
words after the speaker).

Bienvenue!
Welcome to Discover France's "Vocabulaire pour Voyageurs"
learning module. As a service to our customers, we provide here
a "quickie crash course" in some vital vocabulary
for English-speaking travelers to France. The instruction is
divided into five categories: Transportation & Time, Getting
Directions, Money & Numbers, Dining Out, and Biking/Walking.
At any place throughout this module, you can jump to another
unit by clicking on that category at the top or bottom of the
page. You can go through the sections in any order. At the end
of each "mini-unit" there will be a short quiz so
you can test yourself on what you've learned!
