California Wine Tour 7 Nights

Slightly longer than our 5 night tour, this 7 night trip includes visits first to Yountville then the spa town of Calistoga. Enjoy some of the nicest cycling routes we have ever encountered, all while indulging in the local cabernet wines and farm to table cuisine. Pedal through fertile wine valleys, and into thousand-year-old redwood forests and finally along the ruggedly beautiful Pacific coast. With California's fantastic weather and quiet country lanes and you will soon see why this area is a cyclist's paradise. Visit the Dry Creek valley near Healdsburg and then finish on the coast as you cruise from the seaside town of Jenner to the small port town of Bodega Bay. Great scenery, world-class wines and seafood on the coast make this a cycling trip to remember.

Day 1 :   Transfer from San Francisco to Yountville, then ride to Calistoga

We'll meet you in downtown San Francisco and then shuttle you to the quaint town Yountville, about a 1.5 hour drive. In Yountville we'll do our bike fitting and orientation meeting before sending you off for a great pedal to Calistoga. Enjoy a relaxing meander along the flat-to-gently rolling roads of the Napa Valley. With the easy terrain and numerous wineries to stop in at, this route provides a gentle introduction to the week's riding. Arriving in Calistoga in the afternoon you'll have time to stroll through town after checking in at your bed & breakfast. If a full day of biking tomorrow is not your thing, perhaps a hot mud bath or massage in one of the local day spas might interest you. Calistoga lies atop ancient reservoirs that supply the town's numerous hot springs. Dinner tonight is on your own in town at one of the many excellent restaurants. Ask your guides to tell you about their favorites.

Day 2 :   Calistoga Loop ride

Distance 1 : 22 Miles - 35 Km

A couple of options for great rides are available today. We suggest heading down the road to the well-known town of St. Helena. Here you'll find a number of great places to either eat lunch indoors, or you might want to purchase some picnic supplies at the Dean & Deluca before riding up to the Rutherford winery for a great lunch over-looking the valley. Spend the afternoon riding among the wineries on the Silverado Trail as you make your way back up to Calistoga. For a relaxing spa day, simply walk into town for a choice of excellent mud bath and spa treatment options. Walkers too can take advantage of the great location to explore the nearby parks such as Bothe-Napa State park or the hills of Mt. St. Helena.

Day 3 :   Calistoga to Healdsburg

Distance 1 : 19 Miles - 30 Km

A fun ride with some hills is in store today, but we'll provide a lift in the morning for those who are looking for a more relaxing ride. As you leave Calistoga behind this morning you'll travel on small, wooded roads into remote farmland. There are great opportunities today to visit some small and unknown yet remarkable wineries. Most are open for walk-in tastings so you can travel at your own pace. Before long you'll be gliding into the Alexander Valley with over 70 wineries within a quick ride. As you arrive in Healdsburg, you'll be charmed by this quintessential wine town. You should arrive in time to enjoy a stroll around town and through the town's downtown plaza, lined with antique stores, wine shops and great restaurants.

Day 4 :   Loop ride from Healdsburg into the Dry Creek Valley

Distance 1 : 25 Miles - 40 Km

Today's ride is a California Wine Country classic. Leaving Healdsburg you are quickly on back country roads. The views East to the Macamayas Mountains provide a great backdrop as you pedal. Before long you're headed into the Dry Creek Valley and it's beautiful wineries. Purchase picnic supplies at the Dry Creek General Store before drifting off into the afternoon to scout out your picnic spot. A brilliant day on the bike followed by some wine tastings and dinner in town.

Day 5 :   Healdsburg to Guerneville

Distance 1 : 19 Miles - 30 Km

Another stellar day on the bikes is on the agenda for you today as you will make your way West to Guerneville. Begin with a cruise through the Dry Creek Valley and then enjoy a change of scenery and temperature when you enter the great redwood forests that hide the coast. Follow the Russian River as it winds its way West towards the coast. Your stop for the night is Guerneville, a quirky town with a logging town history dating back to the 19th Century. Perched on the sandy banks of the river, Guerneville is a perfect place to spend a relaxing evening post bike ride. Enjoy dinner in town.

Day 6 :   Loop ride from Guerneville - Bike, Hike, Canoe or Horseback

Distance 1 : 9 Miles - 15 Km

Take your pick for today's activities. Only 3 miles North lies the stunning Armstrong Redwoods State Reserve where you'll see the ancient Redwoods and stroll through the groves. You can choose from a myriad of activities today. Go for a hike or horseback ride through the redwoods up to the meadows of Austin Creek State Park. Or if you prefer, take a kayak down the calm Russian River that goes on for miles to the sea. After a full day of adventure, return to your hotel in Guerneville and enjoy dinner in town. Contact us to arrange extra activities.

Day 7 :   Guerneville to Bodega Bay

Distance 1 : 22 Miles - 35 Km

After a relaxing morning and breakfast in Guerneville it's back on the bikes for the final push to the California coast. Immediately leaving Guerneville you'll enjoy a calm descent along the Russian river. The road winds through Redwood forests but before long the rugged coast appears. We'll arrive in the seaside town of Jenner and enjoy views up and down this magnificent coastline. We then push on for our final leg between Jenner and Bodega Bay. Normally the wind is at your backs so look forward to a great cruise South with views of the pristine coast around every turn. Our home for the night is Bodega Bay, a working fishing port with boats that catch salmon, crab and shrimp. Bodega Bay is most famous perhaps however for its role in the Hitchcock classic The Birds. You'll be able to visit the church and schoolhouse featured in the film, but there are many other great funky buildings and shops to explore as well.

Day 8 :   Bodega Bay to San Francisco

A relaxing morning is in store for today. Enjoy a late breakfast in your room or take an early walk on the beach to experience the sea salt air and glistening sea. A short morning ride is also an option for those who still haven't had enough riding. After a lunch of fish & chips or maybe barbequed oysters at a restaurant in town we'll pack the van for the trip (about 1.5 hours) back to downtown San Francisco.
