Cycling Southern Spain and the region of Andalucia

On this week-long cycling tour you will visit the “pueblos blancos” (white villages) of Andalucia in Southern Spain. Beginning in Ronda, you will ride through Benaoján, Montejaque, Grazalema, Zahara, Prado Del Rey, Olvera, Puerto Serrano, and Setenil de las Bodegas. Of special note, Ronda, Setenil and Olvera regularly appear on lists of “most scenic” or “most beautiful” villages in Spain. On this stay you will ride through the Grazalema Natural Park, a beautiful place with a variety of landscapes.
Your start in Ronda affords you the opportunity to visit a city rich in history, dating to the 6th century BC. The city sits on a sandstone plateau, two cliffs bisected by the El Tajo gorge... The Puente Nuevo or “new bridge” spanning the gorge is an ideal spot to take in the views and snap a souvenir photo. We do not recommend doing this trip during July and August because of the heat.

Day 1 :   Arrive in Ronda

On your arrival in Ronda you will have an orientation to present your bikes and review your travel documents.

Day 2 :   Ronda to Montecorto

Distance 1 : 16 Miles - 25 Km
Elevation gain 1 : 520 Meters

For your first ride you will cycle on quiet country roads through Benaoján and on to your next hotel, just outside Montejaque. Along the way you should have time to take a swim in the freshwater lagoon Cueva del Gato at the southern mouth of the Sistema Hundidero-Gato. This caving system has been declared a national monument of Andalucia.

Day 3 :   Montecorto to Zahara

Option 1 : 24 Miles - 39 Km  Option 2 : 43 Miles - 69 Km
Elevation gain 1 : 600 Meters  Elevation gain 2 : 955 Meters

Today’s ride takes you through Sierra de Grazalema, Andalucía’s first natural park, and a forest of cork trees on your way to the village of Grazalema. Here you can take a lunch break and enjoy some tapas in the city square. The city is banked by mountains on three sides so as you are enjoying your walk about on the streets of this “white village” you can also appreciate the view of the nature around you. Then finish up your ride day as you make your way to Zahara de la Sierra.

Day 4 :   Zahara to Montellano

Distance 1 : 39 Miles - 62 Km
Elevation gain 1 : 931 Meters

This ride on gentle rolling roads will pass sunflower fields, olive orchards and a few vineyards as well. Today you will visit Prado del Rey and Puerto Serrano before arriving at your hotel, a traditional Spanish Hacienda. Take a dip in the pool and maybe enjoy a glass or two of Sangria before dinner.

Day 5 :   Montellano to Setenil

Distance 1 : 34 Miles - 54 Km
Elevation gain 1 : 1200 Meters

The route today along the ‘Via Verde de la Sierra’ meanders from Puerto Serrano to Olvera. Along the way we pass through a variety of landscapes as the route follows the path of two rivers, Guadalete and Guadalporcun. Riding along an old railway you will pass over several viaducts and through 30 tunnels. For a lunch stop we can suggest Olvera, a favorite on the “most scenic” lists. Then continue on to your hotel in Setenil, another “most scenic” top 25.

Day 6 :   Setenil to Ronda

Distance 1 : 20 Miles - 32 Km
Elevation gain 1 : 694 Meters

A shorter ride today will give you time to relax at the end of your journey, but not before some more history lessons. Riding along the old “traveller’s route” you will come upon Acinipo, also known as Ronda la Vieja. From the site of this Roman Theatre you can look back on the views of the Sierra Grazalema and your towards your destination in Ronda.

Day 7 :   Free day to explore Ronda

If you have time in your travel plans, we hope you will consider an extra day in Ronda to explore the historic old town, the arabic baths, city wall and many museums. If you are interested in another day of riding, we could add a riding itinerary for this day.

Day 8 :   Departure from Ronda

Today is your departure day. Depending on the time of your flight home we will shuttle you to the airport (with extra cost).

Average / Day : Distance : 46.83 Km / 29.33 Miles - Elevation gain : 816.67 Meters
