Discover sunny the Languedoc Department on another fabulous route that takes you off the beaten path - once again ! This is our playground - our office is just a few kilometers away ! On this tour we take you immediately to the beach at La Grande Motte and then inland. We will hit some little towns in the low hill country which also offers some great mountain biking - not technical but single track fun. You make your way to the charming village of St Guilhem le Desert with its medieval old town and pedestrian alleys. Next to cycling, you will do some canoeing and hiking there and then return to Montpellier for a treasure hunt with a cultural discovery theme.

The tour starts with an easy arrival in Montpellier - accessible by train or plane. We meet you and take you to a very comfortable beach hotel in La Grande Motte.

Arrival at Montpellier train station and transfer at La Grande Motte

Arrival to the Montpellier Saint Roch train station (old town), Sud de France train Station (outside town) train station where you will meet our guide who will transfer you to La Grande Motte to start your Multisport bike tour. Installation in your charming hotel, where you will have an orientation by our staff, and you can explore the town, hang out by the pool or go to the beach.

NOTE : In Montpellier train station, your guide will meet you at the "Informations point" on the first floor. (Check Train Station Map with the link).

From La Grande Motte to Sommières

For the first ride day of this tour you will ride to the little town of Sommieres in the quiet countryside. the little medieval town of Sommieres, with a much-modified Roman bridge, is where Lawrence Durrell spent the last years of his life. the town itself boasts no major sights, though its well preserved and has some charming ambiance in the center. A visit to the castle of Vieilleville (April-Nov afternoons), on the hillside 3km above Sommieres, should not be missed. Owned by the same family for nearly eight hundred years, the castle is full of exquisite antique furniture.

Distance : 49 Km (30 mi).

Elevation : 210 m.

From Sommières LOOP around

Today you have a mountain ride around Sommieres. A combination of single track and double track will give you a sense of the nature and vegetation common in the region. Somewhat hilly, the ride is not technical but requires some short climbs and offers some fast and fun downhills and chutes. Return to Sommieres.

Distances : 18 or 38 Km (11 or 23 mi).

Elevation : 153 or 410 m.

NOTE : We advise you to buy your picnic this morning before leaving Sommières.

From Sommières to Lauret via adventures park

Back on the bike today, your ride to the town of Lauret with a stop at an Adventure Park ! After breakfast, you leave Sommieres on the road again, but nice quiet back country roads perfect for a leisure ride. On your way, you can stop at an adventure park where you will put a harness and climb into the trees for some ladder courses, rope courses, and zip lining ! Overnight in Lauret, a small village near the Pic St Loup .

Distance : 44 Km (27 mi).
Elevation : 472 m.

Activity

Adventure park - You will put a harness and climb into the trees for some ladder courses, rope courses, and zip lining ! These parks, known as accrobranche in France are lots of fun and offer activities not at all common. You should be ok at heights knowing that with the harness you are perfectly safe.

From Lauret to St Guilhem le Desert

Another bike day brings you to the charming village of St Guilhem le Désert; arrive early to explore this fabulous village. Then after go to the central plaza for cafe or drink of your choice to soak up the ambiance of village dating to the year 804! The village is a UNESCO classified village and is a well known spot on the Camino de Santiago not only for its Abbey, but also because it is built in a narrow valley.

Distance : 50 Km (31 mi).

Elevation : 635 m.

From Hiking and Canoe Trip around St Guilhem le Desert

You will return to St Guilhem le Désert again tonight, so today you can enjoy a hike from the hotel and upon return you will have the chance to do a 3 hour canoe trip on some mostly calm river waters near to St Guilhem.

Distances : 10 or 14 Km (6 or 9 mi).

Elevation : 500 m.

NOTE : You won't have any possibilities to buy supplies on today's itinerary. We advise you to buy your picnic in Saint Guilhem le Désert this morning.

Note: Canoeing is a water-based activity, so bring a change of clothes if necessary.

Canoeing in the secret Gorges of Hérault (12 Km) - (3h/ 4h.)

This portion of the river is part of one of the wildest areas in the department of Hérault and is only accessible by canoe. Come ride on the river through the rapids, and take your time to rest in picturesque, quiet and green surroundings. You will have the opportunity to relax, take a swim or have a snack on the numerous small wild beaches along the trail.

Note: Canoeing is a water-based activity, so bring a change of clothes if necessary.

Today, you will return to Montpellier. Built in the 1040s, Montpellier quickly became known for its trade with the Orient, and its medical schools. With winding streets that date back to the Middle Ages and ultra-modern facilities such as the indoor Olympic sized swimming pool, skating rink, planetarium, and tramway system, Montpellier has something for everyone.
