EXCELLENT Based on 254 reviews S P2025-07-02Verified Discover the Loire Valley My first time with Discover France, but it won't be my last. A great choice of hotels and high standard bicycles made our trip light and enjoyable. Plus the comfort of having our luggage transferred every day. When we needed help during the trip, the support service was qualified and attentive. The guidance app works well and is more modern than a classic GPS. Discovering this region of France already has us thinking about next year.Thank you Gabriel for your patience and professionalism. It really was a magical moment to discover the Loire as you assured us it would be! Philip2025-06-30Verified Great company and great people My wife and I have done seven bike tours in France and Italy that were organized by Discover France. If you're interested in doing self-guided bike tours in France, this is the only company that you need to consider. They have great routes, interesting hotels, good GPS guidance, comfortable but not clunky bikes, and reliable luggage transfer. They offer a lot of flexibility and customization of their tours, and, for what they offer in terms of product and service, the price is very reasonable. Even though we live in the U.S. and worried a bit about working with a company operating thousands of miles away in Europe, we found the whole process of planning our tour very easy. The people at Discover France were always responsive, friendly, and helpful. We want to especially single out Solène Graino, who worked with us to plan our last three trips. She provided wonderful advice on routes and hotels. She made a reservation for us so that we could have a special anniversary meal in a small, traditional, and excellent restaurant on one bike tour. On another she made some last minute arrangements to get us ahead of storm that would have washed out a morning's ride. And on every tour, she checked in with us regularly to make sure that everything was running smoothly. frank c2025-06-24Verified Bordeaux to Sete We (10 persons) biked from Bordeaux to Sete and carried our own luggage. The trip was fantastic. Discover France is a bike travel company I would highly recommend. Solene Graino helped us plan the trip. The thing that stands out with Solene is that she is very responsive. She gets back to you right away and answered my endless questions. My wife and I took four other less experienced couples with us and Discover France and Solene made it easy. Tracy H2025-06-19Verified A Lovely Cycling Adventure Through The Loire Valley Gabriel:Thank you for creating a wonderful trip & a very memorable experience for my wife & I, so greatly appreciate your attention to detail. We did the long option most every day to maximize our interaction with central France & we had wonderful experiences w/ beautiful views. We greatly appreciated cycling less traveled routes with fewer automobiles, as it let us focus on the countryside rather than the traffic. Our choice of the 4-star hotels/chateaus was rewarded with very nice accommodations in each location, attentive staffs & excellent dining options, both in the mornings & the evenings each day. Thank you!ToursThe Chateau de Beaulieu was a very nice stay w/ very good food. Our room was comfortable & had nice views as we were on the top level. We dined outside for dinner & inside for breakfast. The only downside was the location outside of town, so we didn't get a chance to wander around Tours to sightsee. I would have liked to have seen the stained glass at the cathedral in Tours. Tried again the day we cycled to Amboise, but missed the bridge into Tours, though that one's on me. Azay-le-RideauOur stay at the Hotel le Grand Monarque was very nice with a comfortable room & bathroom. Dinner out at La Credence was delicious & delightful, loved the courtyard in the back of the restaurant. We took a walk around town after dinner and strolled down to the river. L'ilot d’Azay looked fun, but was about to close up by the time we got there. Next trip!LynnesChateau de Beauvois was a real treat with an extra spacious room, a fantastic dinner w/ splendid wine choices and a very welcoming and knowledgeable dining staff. Breakfast the following morning was also delicious. The location was quiet for a great night's sleep. The front desk staff were quick to help us with our bikes, both on arrival & departure. AmbroiseHotel Clos d Ambrois was such a comfortable stay. We cooled off in the pool after arrival w/ a nice glass of local Chenin Blanc. Then dinner our first evening was just delicious, so much so, we had dinner there the following evening and weren't disappointed. Breakfast had multiple options, all of which were very tasty & the staff very accommodating. I picked up a nice bottle of Sancerre there before departing our last morning.BloisCycling into & the next day around Blois to the chateaus was very nice. Cheverny & Chambord were both quite impressive, each in their own way. I picked up a nice bottle of white wine from Cheverny after arriving home and it was quite tasty. The Hotel Mercure was conveniently located for our cycling in & out of town as well as walking to dinner both evenings to Le Castelet. My wife & I also visited the cathedral & another large church in Blois when we did an urban assault ride on our e-bikes around town, late during our last afternoon there. Many thanks to you for setting up such a great trip throughout the Loire Valley. We thoroughly enjoyed our adventure there, both of the countryside & the cuisine. The people we met there could not have been nicer & more accommodating, they made us feel very welcomed and at home in their beautiful landscape and cities. Take care to you & all your countrymen, we look forward to returning to France again soon! Anne H2025-06-14Verified Fabulous and cannot commend discoverFrance highly enough! This was an absolutely fabulous journey thanks to discover France and thanks to Michael. In preparation, he patiently, kindly, and with enthusiasm answered each and every question we had no matter how small and made meticulous arrangements for us that all worked out beautifully. We love the bikes, so comfortable, no problems. We loved the routes, thoughtfully chosen for the best of everything. We love the attention to details. We will be back! Metsfan862025-06-02Verified We Rode for Three Days without getting Lost! Thanks to Solene and the Discover France team, we included a wonderful three days of biking in our eight-day visit to Lyon and Provence. The bikes were in good shape, the app worked well, the luggage transfers went smoothly. Solene gave us excellent advice about restaurants in St. Remy de Provence. Tatiana helped us remedy one glitch in the Road book app on the morning of our bike ride through the (very windy) Camargue. We can't wait to take another trip with Discover France. Greenway19512025-05-30Verified ViaRhona self-guide bike trip; one week, upgraded accommodations We greatly enjoyed our ViaRhona seven night self-guided bike trip. Routing is 80% bike paths on very low density back roads, with just a few busy highway stretches. Elevations were modest (except for a sustained climb to Davezieux the second night; at least you get a nice downhill the next morning as you return to the ViaRhona path). Lovely variety of scenery, a number of interesting villages, distances comfortable for us (in our early 70's, recreational bikers only). We opted for e-bikes, but only appreciated the help on maybe 2-5% of the route. (The e-bikes currently offered for France based trips are massive beasts, Scott Subs.) We did the upgraded accommodations, which was a nice variety of lodgings. The first night and last nights' hotels (La Pyramide in Vienne and the La Mirande in Avignon) were exceptional. At the other extreme, because of the geography of the trip necessitating a night in the very modest village of Davezieux, the hotel was very basic and dated. There was a nice country manor converted to a small hotel, and a 150 year old country house serving as a B&B. Accommodations in the larger towns (Valence and Orange) were well located and enjoyable. I would recommend adding an extra night at the beginning of the trip in Vienne to enjoy the historic old town, and especially to visit the extraordinary museum featuring Roman mosaics and other artifacts. We had to do our trip the second week of May, which is when there are three national holidays, so there were some closed restaurants and stores to be dealt with; we dined at a Buffalo Grill one night out of desperation. We remain extremely satisfied with Discover France. We have been doing self-guided bike trips for 40 years, mostly in Europe, mostly in France, with a great variety of companies. We have done at least one trip a year, and more recently two. This was our fifth or sixth tip with Discover France (with another already booked for this fall). For our sensibilities, Discover France really delivers. Trip descriptions are accurate, ugly surprises have been non-existent, customer support before and during the trip is outstanding. All the planning is well organized. Luggage transfers have been prompt and reliable (although depending on the trip, delivery can be later in the afternoon on some routes). Pricing is fair. Response to emails is quick and accurate. The phone support during trips the couple of times we have needed it is excellent. A lot of US bike tour companies are really just middle-men, reselling trips that are actually run by small local or regional providers. Being a French company, Discover France is the actual provider for at least the France based trips, and so they have more direct control and knowledge of the trips. We would especially single out Gabriel Tavares who has been the tour consultant for us on our trips the past several years, who has given reliable personal, accurate, and thoughtful advice and information. No organization is perfect. The weak link in the Discover France package for us is the proprietary digital mobile app, with the unfortunate name of Roadbook for Discovery. It was impossible in the early versions, and still remains maddeningly buggy and frustrating in the current iteration. I would strongly recommend running a mapping GPS program in parallel with the Roadbook app (Gaia GPS has been a great performer for us for biking, hiking and general international travel for years). Practice good data hygiene; download maps before travel, turn off cellular data during the route except as needed, and take a good spare battery. Michael B2025-05-26Verified French Riviera We did the four day trip from Nice to St. Tropez. Organization was excellent - we worked with Tatiana who helped us with an additional hotel night on the front end and transportation on the back end. We chose the 3 star hotels, although due to the Cannes Film Festival, we had a 4 star there which was a nice step up. We used the standard bikes - definitely heavy, but fine for this type of trip. Overall, I will be more than happy to use Discover France again in the future. casey b2025-05-26Verified Wonderful 7-day Bike Trip in Loire Valley My friend and I had a wonderful seven day biking trip through the Loire Valley in France. Our travel agent Solene was fantastic. From my very first inquiry, she responded quickly and in great detail to all my questions. The hotels were lovely and well positioned in the towns we stayed in. The GPS routes and maps that Discover France provided were easy to read and took us through many small villages and beautiful areas. I can't imagine putting together a bike trip like this without the professional assistance of Solene and Discover France. It was nice to know that if we needed help they were a phone call away. Solene called us in the middle of the trip to check that everything was going smoothly. The bikes were fine- a little heavier than what we are used to at home- but they were well equipped for the variety of paths that we took. The bike specialist, Giorgio, who brought our bikes to our hotel the first day took time to put my seat from home on the bike I used, and when it became obvious that the seat post was not a good fit, he went to a bike shop and bought a new post that worked perfectly with my seat. He then took time with us to review the itinerary and made sure we knew how to navigate with the GPS Road book. We started in Blois and ended in Saumur. It was truly a wonderful trip. I plan to use Discover France again for my next trip to Europe. Cecilia P2025-05-26Verified Delightful Biking on the Brittany Coast and Loire Valley My husband and I enjoyed two bike trips, Brittany Coast for 8 day and Loire Valley for 4 days, this month, organized by Solene at Discover France. Solene coordinated every detail and was available even while we were on the trip to answer our questions or concerns. At one point in Brittany we had to call the emergency number because the bolt attaching my husband's bike seat had sheared. Discover France immediately contacted a mobile repair person and the seat was reattached within a short time at our hotel and we were on our way.We were very pleased that we were mostly on very quiet country roads or dedicated bike/walking paths. All of the extra informatmion regarding restaurants and attractions in our Roadbook was very helpful. Solene made most of our restaurant reservations and actually got us a reservation at a Michelin star restaurant in the Loire valley that I couldn't get when I tried online. My husband was very happy!May was an excellent month in both Brittany and the Loire Valley. Although we encountered rain two days in the Loire Valley it didn't keep us from biking or visiting the castles planned for those days. The 3 star hotels we stayed at were all very nice and comfortable. The people at the hotels were very friendly and helpful.I have to comment on the food-it was absollutely amazing! Sadly we just missed the mussel season in Brittany (season ends at the end of April) but did enjoy the oysters and other seafood. And not enough can be said about the delicious gallettes (savory crepes). We are looking forward to our next bike trip to France with Discover France!
