Amboise Cycling LOOPS

Arrival in Amboise, which is easily accessible from Paris by train. Take the TGV from Paris to SAINT PIERRE DES CORPS train station in about 1 hour. Then transfer on your own by taxi to the hotel. Please note that there are very few taxis in Amboise which is why we recommend arriving to Saint Pierre des Corps. Most of the hotels in Amboise are not walking distance from the train station. (If you are staying at Hotel La Breche, you have the option to take the train to the Amboise station and then walk to the hotel).

Arrive in the early afternoon and start discovering your host city with a walking tour around Amboise !

We include two walking itineraries in your Road Book to discover Amboise. And if you don't have time on your arrival day, you can still do the hike anytime during your trip!



Canoeing and chocolate tasting today ! A short and moderately flat ride will take you through the forests and alleys of the Amboise countryside passing by the Parc Mini Chateaux (great for kids) and then dropping down to the fabulous Chenonceau Castle that must be discovered with plenty of time to visit. Once at Chenonceau, ride to Civray, just a mile away to start your canoe ride ! You will drop off your bikes there, and they will take you to the start of the itinerary. You will then canoe downstream for almost 2 hours, and pass under the Chateau de Chenonceau. Pick up your bikes and ride back to Amboise where you can enjoy a reward : a chocolate tasting in front of the chateau of Amboise !

Notes : The canoe ride Balade 4 - 4km starts at 1:45pm

Canoeing is a water-based activity, so bring a change of clothes if necessary.

Note : If you choose an other balade (6km) The canoe ride starts at 1:45pm with a shuttle up river. Please don't be late since you'll miss the shuttle if you do .You'll still have the opportunity for canoeing but you'll have to paddle up river which will slightly change your itinerary.

Canoeing underneath Chenonceaux - 4 Km

If you have chosen the canoeing activity, remember to look at the activity map to see the meeting point.

Start from the canoe base camp for a loop to Chenonceau , with the best view ever on the most famous chateau in the Loire Valley.

Note : from 6 years old and must be able to swim. It's not possible for 1 person !

Chocolate tasting

Chocolate tasting in the best chocolate place of the Loire Valley : "chocolaterie Bigot" in Amboise including 1 drink (hot or cold) and a variety of 4 chocolates.

A quiet bike tour on the other side of the Loire through gentle, verdant landscapes, far removed from the main roads - visit the Moncontour wine museum and taste some wine in their cave. About Vouvray wines : Vouvray is the largest white wine appellation of the Anjou-Saumur-Touraine region and it produces splendid wines from the dry and austere to the richest dessert wines, as well as excellent sparkling wines. You will then cross Montlouis white wine appellation and ride in the middle of the vineyards on a bike trail. Return to Amboise.

Activity

Wine Museum - The ancient cellars of Château Moncontour are home to a real treasure ! The Moncontour museum set in the troglodyte caves of the château and retraces the social and cultural viticultural world and the wine industry. Come and discover a unique collection of tools and objects relating to vines and wine work. After your visit, take part of a wine tasting in the old cellar of the château.

From Amboise you will first cross many typical small villages where you can find a small Chateau in almost every one ! Then follow the Loire river toward the village and the feudal castle of Chaumont sur Loire where the annual International Garden Festival is held each year (starting in June). Return to Amboise via back country paths.

Distance : 44 km (27 mi) or 48 Km (30 mi).

Elevation : 345m or 241 m.

Today is departure day, you can take your time getting started in the morning, have breakfast and depart at your leisure from Amboise by train for Paris or other destination. (Depart on your own).

Other cycling itineraries are possible if you wish to extend this type of tour a little longer.

We can offer rides to Montlouis vineyards, Montrichard and its medieval castle ruin, or by round trip train to Blois you can ride toward Chambord.
