Tour de France - Stage 3 - THE PYRENEES

The layout of each course has been carefully crafted by our team. 3 versions allow you adapt to the shape and the desires of each day:

Short version: 50km +1500m, Medium version: 70km +2000m or Long version: 100km +2000m

The itineraries are inspired by the routes taken by the Tour de France. You will ride on mythical routes marked by more than a century of the Tour de France history.

On these slopes, the greatest champions have distinguished themselves : Octave Lapize (1910), whose statue stands at the top of the Tourmalet. Frederico Bahamontes, the Eagle of Toledo who revealed himself there (1954). Eddy MErckx, who performed on thses lands one of the greatest exploits in the history of cycling (1969). But also Bernard Hinault (1979), Miguel indurain (1989), and many others.

You will have the privilege of following several parts of the route of the 2022 Tour de France. You will climb the Hautacam pass only 1 day before the riders. Like them, you will grit your teeth to conquer the cols d'Aubisque and the climb of Peyragudes. You will have earned the right to take your picture at the summit. Day 1 :   Arrival at Toulouse

Meet at the airport or train station in Toulouse in the beginning of the afternoon. Your guides will transfer you to your hotel in Lourdes, in the heart of the Pyrenees. Take time to discover this Pyreneen city. The guides will fit your bike to your morphology so that you will be in the best condition for the rides to come. There will be a briefing with more details and the program of the week. The Tour racers are racing between St Etienne and Mende with a punchy finish on the summit of the Cote of Croix Neuve. Finish the evening getting acquainted at dinner.

Day 2 :   The legendary Col du Tourmalet

Option 1 : 25 Miles - 40 Km  Option 2 : 46 Miles - 74 Km  Option 3 : 62 Miles - 100 Km

Conquer Tourmalet ! Climbing Tourmalet is an unforgettable experience! This legendary climb has seen many champions. It’s been part of the Tour de France more than 60 times. There are 17 kilometers with certain grades at more than 10%. The longer ride option starts directly at Lourdes to join the Campan Valley at the foot of the Pyreneen giant. Things get serious. Once at the top, don’t forget to take a picture in front of the famous cycling statue before heading back to Lourdes. Shorter options begin further along the route before the big climb.

Your guides will bring you to your hotel for a rest after an intense day. Take advantage to watch the finish of the Tour de France stage in Carcassonne on the television.

Day 3 :   Conquer the legendary climbs of the Pyrenees

Option 1 : 19 Miles - 30 Km  Option 2 : 34 Miles - 55 Km  Option 3 : 52 Miles - 83 Km 
Elevation gain 1 : 1075 Meters  Elevation gain 2 : 1950 Meters  Elevation gain 3 : 3300 Meters 

For this day, you will discover the mountain passes of the Pyrenees and its majestic landscapes. The longer option rides part of the route of the 18th stage race of the Tour de France that arrives a few days later. The guides will transfer you to Laruns, in the Valley of Ossau where you will climb Col d’Aubisque, then Soulor before descending to Argeles Gazost. The Col d’Aubisque has been climbed more than 50 times by the Tour de France. The day isn’t over yet. There is another climb to finish at Hautacam; short but sweet. There are shorter options to satisfy all riding levels. You may begin at Soulor or near Argeles to climb Hautacam, a finish used many times by the Tour de France.

In the evening, there is time to share antidotes about different stages of the Tour de France.

Day 4 :   The queen stage of the Pyrenees

Option 1 : 16 Miles - 26 Km  Option 2 : 25 Miles - 40 Km  Option 3 : 60 Miles - 97 Km

Today you will ride THE pyreneen stage of the Tour de France, climbing the Col d’Aspin, Hourquette d’Ancizan, the Col d’Azet, and the final climb to Peyragudes. There is a transfer to La Barthe de Neste. The long option is a loop that lets you discover the natural wealth of the wild Pyrenees. You will ride the same routes of the Tour for the Col d’Aspin, Hourquette d’Ancizan then Saint Lary Soulan. Continue on to the Col d’Azet and the final climb to Peyragudes. The Col d’Aspin has been raced by the Tour more than 50 times. It is an interesting, challenging climb with moments at 10% grade. There are shorter options that begin at Ancizan with the final two climbs. There is a transfer back to the hotel to take advantage of the evening with many new souvenirs.

Day 5 :   The finish line and VIP Tour de France access at Peyragudes

Distance 1 : 22 Miles - 35 Km 
Elevation gain 1 : 1380 Meters 

This morning, you leave for St Lary Soulan to ride the final kilometers of the stage of the day before the arrival of the pros. You will cross under the red flame, the finish line, then mount on the official podium of the Tour de France under the applause of the Tour de France spectators. What a day to finish an unforgettable trip.

It’s not over yet. Get into the heart of the Tour de France ambiance as you join the VIP space Izoard, reserved for Official Tour Operators of the Tour de France that we are. You have front row access to await the stage finish, with live transmission on many screens and hors d’oeuvres. It’s the place to be for the electric ambiance of many other passionate cycling fans. Follow the finish of the racers, riding the route you rode the day before. Who do you think will win?

Your guide will transfer you back to your hotel at the end of the day where you can share your souvenirs of this memorable day.

Day 6 :   Departure

After a good breakfast, your guides will bring you back to Toulouse. During this time, the pros will ride the final mountain stage with a finish at Hautacam, a finish that you are quite acquainted with now. We leave you now with dreams of the finish and final podium at Paris and maybe already new dreams of the Tour in 2023.
